Our Spanish curriculum aims to spark a love of language learning and an appreciation of other cultures. We want children to feel confident communicating in Spanish and develop skills that will help them learn other languages in the future.
We follow Kapow Primary's carefully sequenced scheme, which revisits key skills, phonics, vocabulary and grammar so children build on prior learning. By the end of KS2, children can listen, speak, read and write in Spanish with confidence. They use grammar and phonics to tackle new words, engage in real-life conversations and write short texts. These skills prepare them for secondary school and help them appreciate the value of language learning in a global community.
Encourage your child to practise Spanish at home - apps like Duolingo can make it fun. Watch Spanish-language films or programmes together and celebrate the languages spoken in your own family and community.
