Sparking a love of language and an appreciation of other cultures

Spanish

Overview

Our Spanish curriculum aims to spark a love of language learning and an appreciation of other cultures. We want children to feel confident communicating in Spanish and develop skills that will help them learn other languages in the future.

How we teach

We follow Kapow Primary's carefully sequenced scheme, which revisits key skills, phonics, vocabulary and grammar so children build on prior learning. Lessons are fun and interactive, using games, role play and practical activities. Each unit has a clear theme and purpose, driving engagement and ensuring high-quality learning for all.

Impact

By the end of KS2, children can listen, speak, read and write in Spanish with confidence. They use grammar and phonics to tackle new words, engage in real-life conversations and write short texts. These skills prepare them for secondary school and help them appreciate the value of language learning in a global community.

How you can help at home

Encourage your child to practise Spanish at home - apps like Duolingo can make it fun. Watch Spanish-language films or programmes together and celebrate the languages spoken in your own family and community.
